Eugene Field known as "The Children’s Poet" was a reporter for the Chicago Daily News in the late 1880s. also wrote Little Boy Blue. Illinois has been home to many great poets including Edgar Lee Masters, Carl Sandburg, and others.
Harriet Monroe of Chicago provided a platform for many poets when she founded Poetry Magazine in 1912 and the magazine observed its 100th birthday in 2012.
