Gov. Richard Oglesby about 1868

Richard B. Oglesby of the 8th Illinois Infantry became Major General of all troops from Illinois. He was the elected governor of Illinois from 1865 to 1869, and again in 1873; and U.S. Senator 1873-1979. His third term as governor was 1885-1889. In 1867-1868 his state agent in Washington, Col. Augstin Chester, also served as president of the Illinois State Association (early name for the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC).
