Art Institute on Armistice Day

Crowds on both sides of Michigan Avenue mob the streets of Chicago looking north toward the Art Institute on the east side of Michigan on the real Armistice Day on Nov. 18, 1918. Mostly the crowds just milled around and waved at decorated automobiles that honked back. Many in the crowds came from neighborhoods and buildings that were quarrantined for the Spanish influenza pandemic and should not have been in the streets but they could not resist the desire to be part of the historic celebration.
