Col. McCormick is shown in his World War I uniform. He was a force of nature in Illinois politics for many decades. He was publisher of The Chicago Daily Tribune, the founder of WGN Radio in 1924 and the founder of WGN-TV in 1948. WGN stood for "World's Greatest Newspaper," the slogan of the Tribune. The Catigny Woods military museum and conference center west of Chicago was the home of Col. McCormick.
