Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dawes and their son Dana walk to their polling place in Evanston on Nov. 4, 1924. That night, Dawes became Vice President-elect of the United States to serve with President Coolidge. Vice President and Mrs. Dawes often headed the receiving line at Illinois State Society events from 1925 to 1929. In 1925, he shared the Nobel Prize for Peace with Sir Austen Chamberlain of England for their work on the Dawes Plan to stabilize currencies in Europe.
