Bill MacCracken, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Aeronautics, was a member of the Illinois State Society of Washington.
MacCracken is shown in happier times with Charles A. Lindbergh in foreground after Lindy flew across the Atlantic. Only a few months before, Bill thought he might have to cancel Lindy's pilot license for exessive crashes. Lindy's successful flight in May 1927 knocked the midwest flood story off the front page. The Illinois State Society worked with the American Red Cross to raise money for Illinois flood victims.
