Charles Lindbergh loads the first sacks of mail into his British war surplus DH-4 DeHaviland plane at Checkerboard Field in Maywood, Illinois on April 15, 1926. He and two other Army buddies flew the mail five times a week from Maywood to Peoria to Springfield to St. Louis and back.
