This article outlines Illinois State Society plans for the 111th Anniverary of Illinois Statehood on Dec. 3, 1929. Illinois was admitted to the Union on Dec. 3, 1818 but the vote for statehood took place on Aug. 26, 1818. The Col. U.S. Grant referred to in the article was the grandson of President Grant and he and his wife remained long active as members of the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC for many years until Mrs. Grant became seriously ill in 1961. Mrs. Grant was the daughter of Secretary of State Elihu Root.
