B&O Rail Road Chart of World's Fair

This chart from the B&O rail road helps to explain why the Chicago Century of Progress World's Fair of 1933-1934 was a financial success in the second year in spite of the unemployment and lack of money during the Great Depression. The chart shows the fair location was only one over-night train ride for 60 percent of the population of the country and the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road promoted trips to the fair with special cheaper Pulman car rates to make the trip as affordable as possible for as many visitors as possible and to keep the trains as full as possible.
