Rep. Henry Rainey was from Carrollton, Illinois in central-west Greene County. He was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1933 at the start of FDR's first term term and was an important partner for FDR in getting New Deal legislation passed. He died in 1934. Mrs. Rainey served as Historian of the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC. But unfortunately records covering 1904 to 1934 were lost after the death of the Speaker when she moved from her old home.
