Mayor Richard J. Daley was honored by the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC at the annual dinner in 1966. Mayor Richard M. Daley was a guest of honor and Outstanding Illinoisan Award winner on Jan. 19, 1997 at the Illinois State Society Presidential Gala in Washington. Mayor Richard M. Daley broke his father's record for years serving in the office of mayor and they were only the seond father and son to serve as mayor since Mayor Cater Harrison, Sr. and Mayor Carter Harrison, Jr. in the 1890s.
