The song "Fernando's Hideaway" from the 1954 musical "Pajama Game" started a Tango dance craze in America not seen since Latin American dance fads of the 1930s. The Illinois State Society monthly dances not only featured a time for dancing but also dance instruction prior to the start of each dance by the Vic Daumit Studios of DC. Many dances were held at the Shoreham Hotel in the 1950s or the ballroom of the Kennedy-Warren Apartment building on Connecticut Avenue, NW.
