1974 Society Reception for Retiring Members of Congress

The Illinois State Society hosted a retirement party for Illinois Members of Congress on Sept. 24, 1974 in the Canon House Office Building. The retiring members are holding appreication plaques from ISS and wearing flower lays donated by the Hawaii State Society. Left to right are Congressman Bob Michel of Peoria, Congressman Harold Collier from Western Springs, Illinois State Society Pesident Bill Hermelin wearing white suit, Congressman Ken Gray from West Frankfort, House Republican Whip and Congressman Leslie C. Arends from Melvin, and Congressman Mel Price from East St. Louis who was also retiring at the end of that Congress. Congressman Price was an elder statesman of Congress who seved 22 terms starting during the FDR Amnistration and ending with the Gerald Ford Adnimistration and he served ten years as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
