U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. talks to Hon. Anne Burke, Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court, Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, during the Illinois Inaugural Gala put on by the Illinois State Society in Washington, D.C. Photo by Galesburg Register. The Quadrennial Illinois State Society Inaugural Gala is unique in that it brings together thousands of Illinoisans from both parties from both the East Coast and from Illinois. The tradition dates back to the Inauguration of President Lincoln in March 1861. Almost all state societies in DC host Inaugural parties every four years but the Illinois Ianugural Gala is the largest second only to the Texas State Society Black Tie and Boots party that was held in 2009 at the Gaylord Hotel.
