Don McHenry from East St. Louis

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Donald F. McHenry was honored by the Illinois State Society of Washington, DC in 2001 at the Inaugural Gala for President George W. Bush. Ambassador McHenry was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to the UN post in 1979 and he was the third citizen of Illinois to serve in that post. The other two were former Gov. Adlai Stevenson and former Justice Arthur Goldberg. Ambassador McHenry graduated from Southern Illinois University.
