Tim MCarthy

Orland Park, Illinois Chief of Police Tim McCarthy was born in Chicago in 1949. He was raised raised in the Ashburn neighborhood of Chicago. He graduated from St. Denis Grammar School and Leo Catholic High School and then attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and joined the United States Secret Service. As a secret service agent guarding President Ronald Reagan on Monday, March 30, 1981 when John Hinckley fired shots at Reagan. McCarthy followed his training and turned to face Hinckley in the line of fire as a human shield to protect Reagan and was seriously wounded as was White House Press Secretary Jim Brady from Centralia, Illinois.
