U.S. Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg, a native of Chicago, crowns the 1964 Illinois Cherry Blossom Princess Lolly Howell during an Illinois State Society dance in her honor at the Mayflower Hotel on April 4, 1964. Lolly was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the Dean's List. She is the daughter of former Congressman and Mrs. Evan Howell of Marion, Illinois. Her father was president of the Illinois State Society 1943-1944, a former judge of the U.S. Court of Claims, and Chairman of the Illinois Tollway Commission 1953-1955. Judge Howell is standing to the left of the microphone. At far left is Helen Lewis of Macomb, president of the society 1961-1963 and a board member for fifty years.
